Description

THE CHAPLIN REVIEW is composed of three vintage Chaplin films, produced between 1918 and 1922. The music from the film provides an enchanting, nostalgic experience:

SIDE ONE: A DOG’S LIFE: The story of the tramp who befriends a mongrel dog and their ensuing adventures together, was the first of the Chaplin films to combine comedy and pathos to a marked degree.

SIDE TWO: SHOULDER ARMS: Conceived and made during the First World War, dissenting voices said “You can’t make a comedy about war!” But Chaplin was the first to do just that. And it proved to be a favorite film of the Allied Forces. THE PILGRIM: This was Chaplin’s first departure from the Tramp. It comments on the foibles of society as seen through the eyes of an escaped convict disguised as a Pilgrim. The film contains sequences acclaimed as masterpieces, such as the David and Goliath pantomime and the enchanting finale (when Chaplin walks with one foot in the United States and the other in Mexico.)
